What makes the Ban Co peak special?

The natural charms

Located on the Son Tra Peninsula, Ban Co peak is gifted with a picturesque beauty, surrounded by lush green forests on one side and the vast ocean on the other. At 700 meters above sea level, it is a great spot to take in some fresh air, enjoy the panoramic scenery, and feel like you’re one with nature.

More than the natural beauty, it is the experience of the whole journey. It’s not just the exhilarating feeling of conquering the steep ascent but also the tranquility of stepping into the mist-covered forest where clouds sway nearby. Furthermore, when you reach the peak, the entire cityscape, from the Han River and its bridges to the pleasant Tien Sa Beach, is spread out before you. It’s the ideal setting for photographers looking for natural gems or picturesque Instagram content.

The local legend

The Ban Co peak is associated with the legend of De Thich, who is known as the king of chess. It is believed that De Thich and another deity chose this peaceful summit as their “chessboard.” After several days of evenly matched games, one day, De Thich is distracted by the laughter of the nearby fairies, causing him to make the wrong move and ultimately lose. The deity happily flew back to the heavens, leaving De Thich deep in thought by the chessboard, seeking a way to overcome his defeat. As a result, the locals built a stone chessboard and a statue of De Thich here. Since then, the name “Bàn Cờ” (Chessboard) has been given to this summit.
